Explanation
1. BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Director of Public Utilities to enter into two water tank painting projects with UCL, Inc. The first contract is for the Henderson East 1 Million Gallon (1MG) & West 1 Million Gallon (1MG) Exterior Tank Painting Project, Division of Water Contract Number 2099, in the amount of $533,600.00. The second contract is for the Walcutt (2MG) Interior Wet Tank Painting & Interior Dry Touch-Up Project, Division of Water Contract Number 3000, in the amount of $393,645.00.
Work on the Henderson East and West elevated storage tanks consists of cleaning and overcoating the existing exterior paint schemes. Work on the Walcutt elevated storage tank consists of removing and replacing the interior wet coating system and spot repairing and painting the interior dry areas.
The geographic area of the Henderson tank is in the northwest part of Columbus. The Walcutt tank is in the far west part of Columbus. See attached maps for further detail.
2. ECONOMIC IMPACT/ADVANTAGES; COMMUNITY OUTREACH; PROJECT DEVELOPMENT; ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS/ADVANTAGES OF PROJECT: There are currently 37 water tanks in the distribution system maintained by the City of Columbus, Division of Water. To keep these tanks in optimal condition, they need recoated and improved from time-to-time. Both Henderson tanks need to be recoated at this time. Additionally, there are significant paint failures on the interior of the Walcutt tank that need addressed as well as paint failures and spot repairs to the interior dry area.
